Testimonials
As a speech pathologist working in an ECDD classroom, I was faced with the knowledge that my oldest grandson exhibited signs of autism spectrum disorder. Professionally, I knew that early intervention was absolutely essential. My role became a difficult one. I chose to be a grandmother to my grandson as well as a consultant to my son and his wife. I presented them with a list of possible therapy options. Their decision was to take him to Lesley Boykin's clinic "Let's Talk Kids."
During the summer, I had the pleasure of watching Lesley work with my grandson. Lesley's expansive knowledge and expertise with children with autism spectrum disorder was clearly evident. She has an excellent command of therapy sessions and a genuine dedication to the children with whom she works.
The utmost care is taken to design specifically a plan of therapy that will meet the needs of the individual child. I have seen my grandson grow in both receptive and expressive language. I have seen the radiant smile that comes over his face whenever he works with Lesley. As a grandmother, I am thrilled with his progress and know that he will continue on the wonderful path of learning and using language. As a speech pathologist, I know that this kind of progress is made only through expansive profession knowledge, dedication to career, and a genuine love of working with children. I thank Lesley from the bottom of my heart for possessing all of these!!!
Martha, Speech/Language Pathologist
Grandmother of a preschooler with ASD
Our son was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at two years old. Though devastated, we quickly began speech therapy at Let's Talk Kids, Inc. As a teacher, I was extremely thorough and decisive about the speech-pathologist that would be working with our son. We were relieved to find answers, peace of mind and most of all experienced staff at Let's Talk Kids, Inc. I was more than impressed with the knowledge Lesley Boykin had pertaining to Autism Spectrum Disorder and Applied Behavior Analysis; as well as her ability to teach both my child and myself. She also worked well with our ABA program and completed our intensive therapy team. My son has made tremendous gains in language as he has begun having "mini" conversations and initiates narrative play! I am confident that I can help my child further since I have worked with Ms. Boykin and sincerely recommend Lets Talk Kids, Inc. to any family ready to take the next step toward teamwork and recovery!
Angie, mother of son with Autism Spectrum Disorder
now mainstreamed in kindergarten
Our son William has been participating in a research study at University of Michigan for siblings of children with Autism since he was 13 months old. At that time his receptive and expressive language skills were at an 8 mo level. William began language therapy at Let's Talk Kids when he was16 months old, after repeat evaluations at U of M suggested that he was 'borderline' and at-risk for an Autism Spectrum Disorder. William has worked with Jennifer, Sheila, and Lesley, receiving up to 3 hours per week of language therapy. Now, at 2 ½ he has made tremendous gains in both receptive & expressive language. Researchers at U of M recently heard over 100 different words in a two hour session. Dr. Lord no longer considers him at risk for ASD . We attribute this to the intensive and high-quality therapy that he receives at Let's Talk Kids. Thank-you Lesley!
Brian & Pam, parents of a preschooler who now tests in the 'late talker' range
When we found out that our son had Autism, we were terrified. One of our child's biggest challenges was language development. Over the course of the ten-month-treatment with Lesley, he went from barely putting two words together to testing within age-normal limits. I am absolutely sure Lesley's work was the critical factor in our son's development. Perhaps, Lesley's greatest skill is that of a teacher. She helped us work effectively with our son in between sessions instead of making us wait helplessly for the next visit. Like a lot of parents dealing with their child's autism,
we have many consultants, teachers, and specialists involved in our child's case as well. Lesley is the first one I would recommend to others because she is the best choice we've made for our
child.
Ross, father of a 3-year-old boy with autism
Lesley has been working with our two sons, both of whom have been recently diagnosed with autism. Both boys were unresponsive to sound, to the point that the younger was diagnosed as
deaf and the older was fitted with hearing aids. Neither of the boys had any language or play skills, and the younger one could not communicate in any fashion. My husband and I are
absolutely amazed at the amount of progress our sons have made in such a short time. Both are now responsive to sound. In fact, they can already answer when their names are called and
follow directions as well. Our three-year-old son has developed appropriate play skills and has already a vocabulary of over 30 words. Our two-year-old is now exhibiting great eye contact,
improved play skills, and the relatively impressive ability to communicate his needs through gestures. Lesley is truly a very knowledgeable and effective speech therapist. She has caused a remarkable progress on our special children. Her wealth of expertise is greatly appreciated.
