What Parents Say About Speech & Language Therapy at Let’s Talk Kids My son Wilder is 5 years old with a diagnosis of autism and apraxia. We previously attended a child led therapy program with little success with communication and speech. Wilder was becoming increasingly frustrated by not being able to communicate his wants and needs. I read about Let’s Talk Kids and Lesley’s success with other children on the internet and decided to give it a try. We have not regretted this at all, in fact attending Let’s Talk Kids is the best decision we’ve made for our son. We are amazed by Wilder’s progress. He is focused, following directions, interactively playing games and becoming confident in expressing himself. We’ve only been attending Let’s Talk Kids for three months, We drive over an hour each way, five days a week, because we are so excited by the huge strides he’s made in such a short time. If your child is having trouble with speech, and your hope is waning, please don’t give up. Try Let’s Talk Kids, they’ve done absolute wonders for Wilder. I couldn’t be more thankful that we found them when we did.

Like any parent, we were completely lost when we first received that diagnosis that our 2 ½ year old son Brandon was on the autistic spectrum. From our initial evaluation at Let’s Talk kids, and still to this very day, Lesley Boykin has been sharing with us her incredible wealth of knowledge on the subject. Having over 30 years of experience working with autism, she has been instrumental in helping us map out an intervention program that has met with amazing results. Lesley has methodically built a strong foundation for our son’s language development and given him the gift of speech. In six months of intensive therapy he has gone from a vocabulary of 3 words to spontaneous 4 and 5 word sentences. When people tell us that Brandon is “like a different child from what he was just six months ago, we always recognize the pivotal role that Lesley has had in making this possible.

At 2 ½ years old my son was diagnosed as having ASD with his primary difficulty being language. As any parent would be, I was filled with confusion – “what is ASD”; sadness – “why my son?”; and fear for his future -“what is his potential?”. In addition to being an extremely concerned mother, I am also a former pre-school teacher, so I knew that finding a passionate, knowledgeable, patient and caring person to “click” with my son would be essential to the long-term outcome for his language therapy. I also wanted someone who could educate me so his therapy could continue at home. From the moment I spoke with Lesley to set up the initial consultation I felt some of my fears and anxieties being replace by the one thing parents must hld onto when faced with ASD – HOPE. We have been seeing Lesley for just over two months and the change in my son has been remarkable. He has gone from using mostly “memorized” or echolalic language to being able to make requests and comments using truly functional language. Additionally, he is less frustrated when trying to communicate and his symbolic play is emerging. I am confident my son will continue to develop his language under Lesley’s wonderful care. Furthermore, Lesley has helped me tremendously. She willingly shares he knowledge about the ASD/language development relationship and is always willing to give a listening ear…it has been “therapeutic” for me as well. The day always seems a little sunnier after seeing Lesley. For these reasons I would recommend Lesley and Let’s Talk Kids to anyone facing ASD.

When our son was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder two years ago, we turned to Lesley Boykin for speech and language services. She was such a reassuring voice to us: she kept telling us what our son could do, which we really needed to hear at the time. Lesley is a great teacher and motivator for our kids, plus she gives parents the tools we need to continue the learning at home. I consider her not just a great SLP, but also a trusted friend.

When Lucas was six a classmate’s mother recommended that we take him to Let’s Talk Kids for therapy. Because there was a waiting list (at Let’s Talk Kids) we enrolled him at another therapy center. Six months ago Lucas began therapy with Lesley and Michelle. We knew from the first consultation that we had finally found the best speech therapy center for him. Lesley is so kind and so very patient with our son. There was a significant improvement after his first month at Let’s Talk Kids. Lucas has been saying more words by the week, sometimes by the day, and his speech is so much clearer. We never thought that we would be able to communicate using words with our son! We are beyond thrilled at the progress he has made. Results we had not seen from the two other language development centers that we took him to in the past. Now we know why ther was a waiting list to get into Let’s Talk Kids – because it works! Lesley and Michelle have proven they know what they’re doing.
Tony & Dena, parents of a 7 year old We adopted our son from Russia when he was two years old. Eighteen months ago, when he was 4 ½, he was diagnosed with autism. The psychologist recommended private language therapy in addition to the therapy he was getting in his ECDD classroom. He spoke in single words, with a lot of repetitive phrases used out of context and his comprehension was poor. When I first spoke to Lesley I knew instantly that Let’s Talk Kids was the right place for us. The progress we have seen has been phenomenal. His comprehension is vastly improved and he is speaking in sentences. We can’t thank the staff enough for their constant caring, warmth and hard work. They have been a blessing to our family.
